COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO APPOINr BARB NORTHWAY TO A THREE YEAR
TERM (EXPIRING 1/1/92) ON THE ELK RIVER RECREATION BOARD. COUNCILMEMBER
DOBEL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
Regarding the Planning Commission vacancy, the City Council discussed
the problem of having so many qualified individuals and only one vacancy
for appointment. The Council discussed how to get these interested
citizens involved in other community activities. It was the consensus
that the non-successful candidates should be encouraged to contact the
Community Education Department to get involved in the 2001 Community
Project. The Council discussed its desire to have a representative on
the Planning Commission from Ward 2, if these individuals were as
qualified as the other applicants. It was the consensus of the City
Council that all three Ward 2 applicants; Jim Rossman, Jim Smerdon, and
Mary Eber1ey were good candidates for the Planning Commission, and that
all these individuals would most likely serve the community in a very
professional and objective manner.
