This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaborations, strategic
planning,staff changes/developments,and park operations.
Proceed with Park Improvement Projects
On March 5,the City Council was informed of the Commissions recommendation to proceed with
the following three projects:
• Dave Anderson Athletic Complex scoreboards for$40,000
• Dave Anderson Athletic Complex irrigation for$120,000
• Oak Knoll Athletic Complex field lighting and scoreboard for$125,000
Council Member Wagner expressed reservations with moving forward on the Dave Anderson
Athletic Complex (DAAC) improvements due to the uncertainty of the location for the arena/civic
center. She stated she is in favor of the Oak Knoll Park improvements.
It was suggested a motion to approve the Oak Knoll improvements with DAAC improvements
contingent upon the later work session discussion. The Council discussed the facility but did not
discuss the DAAC improvements. The DAAC improvements will continue to be placed on hold
until further Council action.
Council approved the Oak Knoll athletic field lighting and scoreboard project. Delivery of the lights
should occur within five weeks with two weeks for installation,weather dependent.
Elk River Fest
The Council approved moving forward with the downtown open street festival program on
Saturday,July 7 and approved the name Elk River Fest. All downtown businesses were contacted by
staff and each expressed support. The concert at Rivers Edge Commons Park for this event will be
a Buddy Holly tribute band"The Night the Music Lived." Fireworks will be at the high school after
the concert.

Park Maintenance Worker Position Vacancy
Initial interviews for the Park Maintenance position vacancy were held February 20. Second round
interviews were held at the City Maintenance Facility on February 28 with two very qualified
candidates. We have chosen a final candidate and are now waiting on the background checks.
Riverfront Concert Series 2017
The Riverfront Concert Series is confirmed for 10 concerts on the following dates:
June 14 Rockin'Hollywood's
June 21 The Band that Fell to Earth (David Bowie tribute)
June 28 Country Roads (John Denver tribute)
July 5 No Concert
July 12 Shane Martin
July 19 Ventriloquist and the Minneapolis Police Band
July 26 A Hard Days Night (Beatles tribute)
August 2 Forever Elvis
August 9 Fabulous Armadillos
August 16 Arch Allies (Styx and Journey tribute)
August 23 Elton Songs (Elton John tribute)
All of the concerts are held at 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings at Rivers Edge Commons Park. The
schedule is posted on the city website. It should also be noted that the Farmer's Market hours have
moved to 3-7 p.m. on Thursdays and hour longer than in the past.

Spring Clean Up Day

The annual City of Elk River Spring Clean Up Day is an event for all Sherburne County Residents (bring proof of
residency). Bring unwanted items to be recycled and disposed of properly. Please donate usable items to local
charities first. Fill out the form on the back of this page and bring it along with your items.
Eligibility Requirements for items to be accepted:
• Tires must be free of rims
• Mixed Junk does not include electronics,appliances, tires or other charged-for items
• Liquids and Fluids must be drained from all items
• Load your vehicle with electronics,lights and scrap metal available for removal first
• Load your vehicle with tires,appliances,mixed junk,mattresses,and furniture to be removed last
• Plan to unload your own items
• Items not listed on the form must be approved prior to delivery,callwith questions
• Your form will be reviewed by gate staff.Your total is subject to change
