97-041 RES ~ RESOLUTION 97-~1 'ity of EI~¥~'~R~vd~RESOLUTION}p, ~'~' ~'~' FOR THE CITY OF ELK RIVER A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE SUCCESS OF ELK RIVER'S FIRST HERITAGE FESTIVAL AND ENDORSING THE UPCOMING SECOND ANNUAL HERITAGE FESTIVAl, WHEREAS on August 10 and 11, 1996, the City's first Heritage Festival was held honoring the City's 150Lb year anniversary of Euro-American Settlement at the confluence of the Elk mad the Mississippi Rivers; and WHEREAS, the first Heritage Festival also commemorated the arrival of David Faribault who established the Elk River Trading Post in 1846; and WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges that the Heritage Festival was a great success and an asset to the community; and WHEREAS~ the Heritage Festival Committee is in the process of planning the City's second annual Heritage Festival to be held August 9 and 10, 1997; and WHEREAS~ the second annual Heritage Festival will focus on transportation in Elk River including canoes, rafts, oxcarts, ferry travel, railroads, and Charles Babcock's contribution to the national highway system, which is all a part of Elk River's history. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council endorses the mission of the Heritage Festival which is as follows: "to celebrate the history and heritage of Elk River and to preserve its identity and pride." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Elk River City Council acknowledges the success of the first Heritage Festival held in 1996 and supports the upcoming 2nd annual Heritage Festival to be held on August 9 and 10, 1997.
