Action Requested
Approve,by motion, the hiring of Clayton Aswegan for the position of Police Officer effective April 16,
2018.
Background/Discussion
Two new police officer positions were included in the 2018 budget. We went to market to fill these
positions and received 127 applications. Following initial interviews with 67 candidates, 14 were invited
back for another interview with the captains and human resources. Seven of those candidates moved on
to interview with Chief Nierenhausen. Chief Nierenhausen chose two candidates to proceed to
background investigation and medical and psychological evaluations.
Clayton Aswegan has been working as a patrol deputy for the Wright County Sheriff's Office since
December of 2016. Prior to that,he worked security positions and as a forklift operator through his
schooling. Mr. Aswegan holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Minnesota
in Crookston.
Financial Impact
This position is included in the 2018 budget. All pay and benefits will be consistent with union contract
and city policy.
