SUBJECT: Park and Rec!reation Update
Adult Softball
This is the first year that Parks ~nd Recreation has managed adult softball. Rioss Demant,our
new Recreation Coordinator is !managing the leagues and reports that enrollment is above
last years levels and we have actually had to turn some teams away. Next year we will look at
expanding the league. .
House at Woodland Trails
The Park Commission discussed the schedule for removal of the house near the entrance
at Woodland Trails Park. The house is currently being used as affordable housing for
families in transition. The Pa4 Commission decided to explore the costs of removing the
building and developing this s.te as a picnic grounds with a playground. There are several

neighborhoods nearby that do inot have playgrounds and a large playground in this
location would be accessible By pedestrian trail to a substantial number of people.

2005 Parks Capital Improvement Projects Update
. Proposals for playgroUilld structures have been received, and reviewed by the Park
Commission.
. The Y AC Soccer Field, project is scheduled to break ground in early May.
. The trail and paving p~rtions of the 2005 Improvements have been bid out, with a
bid opening scheduledifor April 27. Increased fuel costs could affect the budget
for these projects.
. The ofleash dog park ~ddition to Lions Park is scheduled for installation in Early
May. Parks and Recre~tion staff have scheduled volunteer to teach a dog
citizenship class for prtppies to be held in the dog park.

County Road Construction ~nd Trail Development
The Park Commission has id~ntified the need for pedestrian facilities adjacent to county
roads. There are currently no l1'lans for a detached trail along Co. Rd. 1. Reconstruction
of Co. Rd. I has been PostpoIIied until 2006, which provides the City the opportunity to
explore the addition of a detaqhed trail.
The SWCD will be installing monitoring well to determine the effectiveness of putting in
a ditch plug. There will be a monitoring well and a piezometer on the east side of the
wetland basin 200' south of the ditch and a monitoring well and piezometer on the east
side of the basin within 50'00fthe ditch. I depth gauge will also be installed in the ditch
to measure water depth. Elevations will need to be established for the wells. Water levels
will be recorded at each location on a weekly schedule. This will allow for measuring of
the effectiveness of ditch plug. The Park and Recreation Commission believes that the
restoration of this wetland is a critical issue
