Approve, by motion, the hiring of an additional full time liquor clerk to be utilized by Northbound and
Westbound liquor stores.
Background/Discussion
During the past week, the liquor store staff interviewed applicants for the soon-to-be vacant full-time
liquor clerk position due to the retirement of Vickie Carlson at Northbound Liquor. Staff has identified
2-3 strong candidates suitable for this position.
With the current labor market, it is difficult getting applicants for the part-time positions to fill needed
shifts and unfortunately, part-time positions are frequently temporary creating ongoing recruitment and
hiring processes and shift shortages in the stores.
Staff would like to hire an additional full-time liquor clerk in lieu of the part-time position. The new
employee could be utilized at both liquor stores to meet staffing needs. An additional full-time clerk
would give the liquor stores the stability of a regular employee with a consistent schedule, rather than
trying to hire and constantly train transient part time employees.
Financial Impact
For 2018, the financial impact will almost be budget neutral due to the retirement of the full-time liquor
clerk and with the hiring of a full time liquor clerk at a lower starting wage.
