In order to do so, six temporary classrooms need to be located in the faculty parking lot north of the existing senior high school. There is adequate space for vehicular circulation;however,the trailers will need to be connected to the high school's fire alarm system for health/safety reasons. Fire Chief Bruce West has included a memo regarding the Building and Fire Code requirements for this request. This request is for an interim use;therefore,it has an end date. As requested by the school district representative,it will be June 2005. Recommendation Staff recommends that the Planning Commission recommend approval of the request for temporary classrooms at the high school with the following condition: 1. These costs include all of the City's out-of- pocket costs for expenses, including the City's costs for review of the application by the City's environmental Consultant, City Engineer,City Attorney, or other consultants, and may also include a charge for extra staff time to process particularly complex applications. The City will bill the applicant for these costs as they are incurred, and payment will be due within thirty(30) days of mailing of the bill. If payment is not received as required by this by this agreement,the City will suspend the application review process and may deny the application for failure to comply with the requirements for processing the application. Drawings shall be folded, at a scale no smaller than 1"=50', and no larger than 24"x36" in size. One (1) set of 11"x17" reductions is also required. West, Fire Chief DATE: August 14, 2003 SUBJECT: Elk River Senior High Portables The Elk River Senior High is requesting approval from the Elk River City Council for six temporary classrooms at the Elk River Senior High School complex. The following items shall be addressed prior to occupancy of any students within the temporary classrooms. • A fire alarm and detection system shall be installed within the temporaries in accordance with the 2000 International Fire Code Section 907. The fire alarm and detection system shall be connected to the fire alarm system at the existing senior high complex. The fire alarm and detection system shall be inspected by the Elk River Fire DepaiLment for compliance prior to student occupancy. • Lock box—A Fire Department key box shall be installed on the exterior of the portable classrooms with the appropriate keys installed in the lock box prior to student occupancy of the portable classrooms. Please contact the Elk River Fire Department for key box placement,key installation, and locking up of the lock box. • Fire Extinguishers shall be selected,installed, and maintained in accordance with the 2000 International Fire Code Section 906. Please contact Cliff Anderson, Fire Inspector for the Elk River Fire Department,in reference to location and sizing of fire extinguishers within the portable classrooms. • Fire lane access shall be maintained at all times around the portable classrooms within the site area. Fire Department access is essential for each of the portable classrooms at the Elk River Senior High complex.
