Action Requested
Discuss and provide direction for alternative recreation improvements.
Background/Discussion
On July 16, 2018, the City Council approved a resolution for a general election ballot question requesting
a Local Option Sales Tax to fund $35 million in recreation improvements and additions.
Throughout the discussion, the Council indicated a desire for a fall back plan if the referendum failed.
Three facilities need major system improvements,Activity Center 55+, Elk River Ice Arena, and Lions
Park Center. The Council should consider either committing to funding some or all of the needs through
property taxes or removing the facilities from the city inventory.
The Council's decision is important to communicate precisely what the impact will be as a result of a'yes'
or 'no' vote on the Local Option Sales Tax referendum.
