Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Ryan Sisterman to the position of Police Officer effective September
5, 2018.
Background/Discussion
Upon the retirement notice of Detective Kim Peterson we went to market to fill a police officer position.
During this process, we received a resignation notice from Officer Megan Christensen. Since we were
already recruiting, we hoped to fill Officer Christensen’s position from the same pool. This hiring fills
Officer Christensen’s vacancy.
We received 57 applications and interviewed 40 candidates. Second interviews were held with eight
candidates, five of whom moved forward to interview with Chief Nierenhausen. Following background
investigation and psychological and physical pre-employment testing, we recommend Ryan Sisterman for
this position.
Mr. Sisterman is currently working for the City of Cottage Grove as a Community Service Officer. He is
also a Police Reserve for the St. Paul Park Police Department.
Mr. Sisterman will be paid at the starting wage for a police officer per the LELS Local 231 contract. All
pay and benefits will be consistent with union contract and city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
