DISCUSSION:
• In the last month,the level two charger downtown had 2 sessions, and provided
customers with 8 kWh of green energy. The level two charger in the ERMU/City Hall
parking lot had 5 sessions and provided customers with 38 kWh of green energy. The DC
fast charger at the Coborn's fuel station has had 8 sessions and provided 106 kWh of
green energy to customers.
• Provided a presentation with city staff and representatives from Iserlohn at the Minnesota
GreenStep Cities Workshop on October 3, 2018. This was part of the visit for the Climate
Smart Municipals initiative. We spoke primarily about electric vehicle initiatives and
some possible changes that may be implemented on a broad scale throughout the city and
state relating to ordinance and building code changes.
• As the summer cooling season wraps up there has been a rash of residential and
commercial customers that are concerned about their energy use. September was pretty
warm for the first half of the month, and central Minnesota was actually 2 degrees above
average for the entire month.
• Met with city EDA staff to discuss the marketing strategies for the proposed data center
site owned by the County near the other existing data center locations. We also discussed
rate making options.
• ERMU participated in the National Drive Electric Week again this year with an event at
Farmers Market on October 13. Over 120 people stopped by to check out the Chevy Bolt
and the Mitsubishi Outlander along with four other EVs and their owners that were at the
event. We had great conversations with the people who stopped by to learn more about
the technology. Attached is the article from the Elk River Star News.
• Working with statewide stakeholder group on a revised distributed generation (DG)
interconnection process, contracts, and rates. The revised documents will have to be
approved by the ERMU Utilities Commission by June 1, 2019.

More than 120 curious area residents stopped by the Elk River Municipal Utilities and City
of Elk River electric vehicle exhibit at the Farmers Market on Sept. 13. The event was part
of the National Drive Electric Week celebration held from Sept. 8-16.

Area residents were able to talk with electric vehicle owners as well as Elk River Municipal
Utilities and city staff and get first-hand information about what it's like to own an electric
vehicle, according to Tom Sagstetter, Elk River Municipal Utilities' conservation and key
accounts manager. In addition to Elk River Municipal Utilities' Chevy Bolt and the city of Elk
River's Mitsubishi Outlander, area residents brought their vehicles to share. On display
were Chevy Volts and Bolts, a Nissan Leaf and a Zero SR motorcycle.
In addition to general electric vehicle information, residents learned about the
opportunities that exist in the Elk River Municipal Utilities service area. Many residents
were interested in the affordable rates offered by Elk River Municipal Utilities for charging
electric vehicles during lower demand periods, rebates for the installation of an electric
vehicle charging unit, and other incentives that are available to individuals purchasing an
electric vehicle, Sagstetter said.
There were also many questions on how public charging stations work. Currently, Elk River
Municipal Utilities has three public charging stations available. They are located at the
downtown public parking lot on Main Street, at the fuel station at Coborn's on Highway
169, and in the parking lot of City Hall and Elk River Municipal Utilities on Orono Parkway.
These public charging stations are available to any person who drives an electric vehicle
and is in need of a little juice for the road.
