Background/Discussion
The following individuals applied to serve on the Energy City Commission,Heritage Preservation
Commission, or both. All have been notified of interviews and indicated they will be in attendance.

There are two vacancies on the Heritage Preservation Commission with differing term expirations to fill
previously unexpired terms.
Energy City Commission
There is one vacancy on the Energy City Commission. The vacancy must fall into one of the following
categories and all candidates meet one of these requirements.
■ Energy related businesses (this can include consultants, manufacturers, technology,
environmental, energy producers and/or energy providers), or;
■ Commercial or residential customers (representatives must receive at least one city service
water, sewer, trash collection, or electric delivery), or;
■ Nonprofit organizations (this can include schools, youth organizations or business
organizations as determined by the city council).

Why are you interested
in serving on a city
commission?
A personal value and interest of mine is serving the community I
belong to. I am a newer resident of Elk River proper but I grew up
in Rogers where my family has lived for 24 years. In 1994
Rogers was still developing much of its identity, businesses, and
resources, so the Elk River area is, in a broader sense, the
community I grew up in. Having been married in October and
looking forward to starting a family in Elk River, I wanted to begin
my service immediately. Living within walking distance of the
downtown area, my wife and I frequent the businesses, use the
facilities, and care deeply about our home town's future. That
future relies on a firm understanding of Elk River's past. The
Heritage Preservation Committee would be an excellent
opportunity to support both.
What skills, training,
and experience would
you bring to the
commission for which
you seek appointment?
Community engagement and outreach are critical skills as a
community program coordinator. 10 years of working in
education has advanced skills in building relationships,
communicating messages, analytical thinking, and assessment.
In my professional life I am accountable to the city governments
of Ramsey, Andover, Anoka, and Coon Rapids, as well as Anoka
County. I report monthly to city council members, a mayor, and a
county commissioner to ensure programs are effective and
efficient. In November I will begin a position with Elk River
Municipal Utilities in communications and administration. For that
opportunity I have read A History of Elk River Municipal Utilities
and found myself looking for ways to continue to progress my
understanding of Elk River's origins. As a member of the
Heritage Preservation Committee and working to support the city,
I feel I could offer the energy and interest in fulfilling this role.
