Approve,by motion, the hiring of Nathan Moore to the position of Community Service Officer I
effective November 20, 2018.
Background/Discussion
The CSO I is a temporary part-time position that works up to 24 hours per week, primarily evenings and
weekends. The maximum length of this position will be two years with a possible extension of one year,
depending on the employee's declared education track.
Following the resignation of Nick Davis in June, who went to the Washington County Sheriff's Office to
fill a full-time Deputy position,we went to market to fill our vacant CSO I position.
We received applications from 24 interested candidates and offered first-round interviews to 16 qualified
applicants. Second-round interviews were given to the top four candidates. The Chief and Captains
decided to complete background investigations on the top two candidates. After careful and thorough
evaluation, the decision was made to select Nathan Moore for the position.
Nathan is currently a student at Rasmussen College enrolled in the Law Enforcement program. He
worked as a Security Patrol Officer at the Mall of America beginning in March 2017, and worked as a
Security Agent from 2015 —2017 at an establishment in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Minnesota.
He enjoys fitness activities, especially softball and baseball.
Nathan is ready to start his position with the Police Department on Tuesday,November 20, 2018. He
will be paid at step A of pay grade 6N. He will be eligible for step increases and COLA adjustments
consistent with City policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
