Approve, by motion, adjusting the pay plan to differentiate between the six positions in paygrade 2E and
provide a retroactive adjustment to the police chief, fire chief, and public works director/chief engineer
positions retroactive to the beginning of the pay period that includes January 1, 2019.
Background/Discussion
At the January 22, 2019, work session, Mayor Dietz requested to have a discussion about the pay for the
six department director positions. City Council direction was to re -benchmark the three positions that
scored slightly higher than the other three due to increased hazards in their work environment. The City
Council does not want the other three potions impacted due to this re -benchmarking.
Attached is the adjusted pay plan following Council's direction. The change includes a new pay grade
which is now 2E and "renumbering" the other exempt paygrades to accommodate the addition of the
new pay grade.
Financial Impact
Adjusting the pay of the police chief, fire chief, and public works director/chief engineer positions
retroactive to the beginning of the pay period that includes January 1, 2019, will impact the 2019 general
fund budget by approximately $6,125.00.
