Why did employee choose to attend?:
Need hours for water and wastewater license.
What information was learned by attending?:
Membrane Plant - Hutchinson:
25% of their water goes to waste after the osmosis process. It was used because of the
cities high ammonia levels. By implementing the process of osmosis, they were able to
blend the water to meet State standards.
Proliferation of Antibiotic Resistance:
Ground and surface water have been contaminated with antibiotics, which will end up
leeching into well water. It can start off by citizens flushing their antibiotics and it
getting into the river, thus someone down stream using the river water for drinking water.
Conference students were questioning presenters about the magnitude of risk for wells.
Is there enough contaminates to be cancer causing?
Climate Change — Climatologist Perspective:
The South Pole ozone is healing itself. Warmer winters will be harder on us for insects
and for ice cap melting. How much is human induced? How much is a natural cycle of
the earth? It is a serious issue, many think that it will just go away.
