Approve, by motion, ahead of schedule replacement of Streets Division truck 238, at 2007 Ford F-550
pickup with landscape box and snow plow.
Background/Discussion
Street Division truck 238, a 2007 Ford F-550 is currently scheduled for replacement in 2023 in
accordance with the Capital Replacement Plan adopted by Council on December 3, 2018.
In 2018 the Fleet Committee reviewed the cities equipment assets and developed the 5 year capital
replacement schedule. At the time Unit 238 scored 13 points and was recommended for replacement in
2023. Since the completion of the fleet replacement plan by the Fleet Committee in August, 2018, Unit
238 has required multiple repairs resulting in costs exceeding $9,000. Most recently this unit required the
replacement of the transmission and currently has an issue with the engines turbo system. Current
maintenance costs for this truck now exceed $18,000 since its purchase in 2007.
As a result of these increasing maintenance costs, this unit was re-evaluated and now scores 15 points
triggering the requirement for replacement. Based on documented issues with this particular Ford
engine, staff recommends replacing this unit.
The new truck will be a 2019 F550 cab and chassis with a Towmaster landscape box and plow
equipment. The total cost for the purchase of the F550 cab and chassis is $39,661.10 and $24,450.00 for
the landscape box and plow equipment for a total state contract price of $64,111.10.
Financial Impact
The total cost of the truck with landscape box and snow plowing equipment is $64,111.10. This truck is
currently scheduled for replacement in 2023 and is not budgeted for 2019. The estimated ending cash
balance for the Equipment Replacement Fund for 2019 is $368,215; with the replacement of this truck
the adjusted balance is $304,104.
