Background/Discussion
A joint meeting was requested with the Parks and Recreation Commission to discuss standardized
community picnic shelters for the city park system.With large picnic pavilions planned for Lion John
Weicht Park and Woodland Trails Regional Park, staff is looking for Council and Commission direction.
Due to Lion John Weicht Park design and bid document completion timelines, timely direction is
important
The picnic pavilion for Lion John Weicht Park is planned to accommodate up to 100 people while the
Woodland Trails pavilion would hold over 50. Both shelters will be the largest in our park system.
In the WSB design services request for the Woodland Trails shelter,it was requested it match our
wayfinding signage stone. This would be the Dutch-quality cultured stone veneer-Michigan-River Rock
with standard grey mortar. WSB provided some initial concepts to the Woodland Trails Regional Park
Grant Committee last month to start the discussion.
