Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Zaniel Dell as Street Maintenance Operator II effective May 20, 2019.
Background/Discussion
With the retirement announcement of Street Maintenance Operator II Terry Mack, we went to market to
fill this position. We received 35 applications and interviewed six candidates. Following all of the required
background checks and testing, we recommend Zaniel Dell for this position.
Mr. Dell’s work history includes working as a laborer in construction, farming, and well drilling fields as
well as a short stint as a legal assistant and a few years in the medical equipment manufacturing field.
Since 2016 Mr. Dell has been working as a traffic control supervisor for Safety Signs. Mr. Dell holds a
Class A CDL, State of Minnesota Traffic Control Supervisor Certification, and an ATSSA Traffic Control
Supervisor Certificate.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position and is part of the IUOE Local 49 Union. All pay and benefits will follow
union contract and city policy.
