Background/Discussion
A joint meeting was held on April 15, 2019 with the Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council
to begin discussing standardized community picnic shelters for the city park system. The picnic pavilion
for Lion John Weicht Park (LJWP) is currently being designed to meet bidding deadlines. This is a picnic
pavilion planned to accommodate up to 100 people while the WTRP pavilion would hold 50 people. The
WTRP pavilion has a budget of $125,000.
The consensus from the joint meeting was for the LJWP to have the following design elements:
Steel Frame Poligon Chelsea Pavilion style
Steel roof with wood underlayment
Red color roof to match Rivers Edge Commons Park gazebo.
Rock veneer on columns up to four feet to match city’s wayfinding rock
Serving counter with electric outlets for crock pots
Interior lighting with sensor and timer for night activities
It was discussed that the Parks and Recreation Commission should discuss a standard picnic pavilion
design. Does the Commission want to consider the design elements discussed at the recent joint meeting
for the city park system?
