Approve,by motion, an amendment to § 2-112, Hiring Authority and Procedures of the City of Elk River
Code of Ordinances.
Background/Discussion
Ordinance § 2-112 identifies the City Council as the hiring authority for all new employees. Practice has
been to hire seasonal, temporary, and non-regular part-time employees administratively. This amendment
codifies the past practice.

An Ordinance Amending Chapter, 2-112, Hiring Authority and Procedures of the
City of Elk River, Minnesota, City Code
The City Council of the City of Elk River does hereby ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That § 2-112,hiring authority and procedures, of the City of Elk River Code of
Ordinances shall be amended to read as follows:
The city council shall have authority to make the final hiring decision on all new regWar employees
and on-call firefighters. Hiring authority for seasonal, temporary, and non-regular part-time
employees is delegated to the city administrator. The hiring process shall be administered by the city
administrator and shall be in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
SECTION 2.That this ordinance shall take effect upon adoption and be published as provided by
law.
