The conference is being held August 19 - 21, 2019, at Breezy Point Resort in Breezy Point, Minnesota. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending the conference so I can register you for the event and reserve rooms. If you are interested in participating in the golf tournament or bike ride, I will need to know that as well. Attached for reference is the conference brochure. The annual commissioner self -evaluation will be conducted during the July 9 commission meeting. Questions for the evaluation will be sent out in advance via Survey Monkey. Staff anticipates sending out a link to the survey towards the end of June. Inserts for the June billings include Clean Energy Choice for Business and a How to Read Your Bill flyer. The Customer Service Department and Communications Department worked with NISC to develop the How to Read Your Bill flyer with steps for reading and understanding the new bill format. Prior to the new bill design going out, the Communications Department proactively promoted the benefits of the new layout and design through social media and website blogs. June social media posts will feature a variety of topics including: recognition of ERMU's Water Department as a finalist for the 2019 Source Water Protection Award; an introduction to new employees and announcing employee promotions; summer energy conservation tips; ERMU's safety culture; and promotion of the new Clean Energy Choice for Business. The Communications Department and Technical Services Superintendent worked together to create a new door hanger that will be used as part of our notification process when entering onto property to access our equipment. The door hanger was intentionally designed to be multi -functional and work for a variety of purposes that may require us to enter onto a customer's property. The shot -gun start will be at 1 pm, with check -in at the golf course beginning at noon. Everyone needs to pre -register as an individual or as a scramble team. Walk-ins will not be allowed. Elk River Municipal Utilities 83 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How Much Does Clean Energy Choice for Business Cost? • An incremental charge of $0.001 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) above regular retail rates. The charge is applied to all kWh in excess of the Minnesota Renewable Energy Standard (currently 17% of all electric sales). • As an example, a customer with usage of 10,000 kWh per month would pay a monthly program surcharge of $8.30. [10,000 x (100%-17%) x $0.0011 What is Renewable Energy? Renewable energy is generated from facilities powered by wind, solar, bioenergy, water, and more. Where Does the Renewable Energy from Clean Energy Choice Come from? The renewable energy for the Clean Energy Choice program is supplied by Minnesota Municipal Power Agency's renewable resources. MMPA's renewable resources include: wind, solar, and biomass. For more information please visit http://www.mmpa.org/sustainable-energy/overview/. Does Renewable Energy Flow Directly to My Business? No, the renewable energy generated enters into the "electric grid." Therefore, it is impossible to know where the specific electricity supplying your business originated from. However, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) provided as part of the Clean Energy Choice program guarantee that your renewable purchases are certified renewable energy in Minnesota. What Are Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)? Every kilowatt-hour of renewable energy generated by MMPA is assigned a unique REC number to ensure that each unit of renewable energy is accurately tracked. The State of Minnesota also uses RECs to track renewable energy use. The Clean Energy Choice program utilizes these RECs to ensure that you are helping to support sustainable energy systems for the future. Am I Committed to a Contract Term? Yes - participation in the Clean Energy Choice for Business program is on a calendar year basis. In return, the per -kWh surcharge is fixed for the same period. You will be informed of any change in the per -kWh surcharge for the upcoming year by November 1, and you have until December 1 to let us know if you want to continue participating for the coming year.
