ERMU Commission
MEETING DATE:
June 11, 2019
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
FROM:
Dave Ninow —Water Superintendent
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
6.1e
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered six new water meters.
• Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from seven water services.
• Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria
o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH
• Completed 22 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards
o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report
• Submitted MPCA Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for the Diesel Generation Plant.
• Hydrant flushing went well; with the help of Tech Services, it took the water operators
five days to complete.
• Eric Jean, our new Water Operator, started on May 15. He's a great addition to the
crew.
• Staff has been working with the City Storm Water and Engineering departments on
planning for a new storm sewer pipe that will cross the water main on School Street.
The pipe will be installed at the current water main depth, so the water main will need
to be lowered at that location. The storm sewer is for the new ice arena.
• The water operators have been working on fixing issues with fire hydrants found during
flushing. The most common issues include: missing marker flags, broken chains,
interference from landscaping and mailboxes, and hydrants not shutting off completely
after they were opened. Staff also found two hydrants that appear to have been struck
by a vehicle that need repair.
