The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Elk River Council was callee to
order by Mayor Bartelt on Jan. 4, 197~, at 7:3' pm. in the Village Council
Room. Members Present were Mayor Bartelt; Councilmen Hudson,. Syring, 1:.'1-'
And Otto.

The minutes of the De. 21, 1970 regular meeting were re'lCi. No additions or
corrections were made.
Councilman Syring moved and Councilmen Hudson seconded that the Council
appoint Bill Konop to finish the te~ of Oliver Micheau for the remaining
two yeraB. Motion carried.

A discussion et the police chief applicants fellowed. It was stated that
Robert Olson wanted to knew whet:her he wulc! get the job. The Ceuncil ie-
cided that the Clerk sheul_.senci Mr. Olson a letter 'offering 700jmo.
salary for the position an<< if Mr.TYxT~ Olson is still interested, he should
c9ntact the Council to set up a final interview.
A discussion of the Welfare problem foilowed. Mr. Mac Gibbon sUllgested that
the Council get a full statement from Mrs. Pattison as to her property rights
before we pay her bills.
Mr. Mac. . Gibbon also said that the lawsuit is coming up and the village is
going to demand that the insurance com~nypay the $300,000.00 demanded by
the Plaintiff. In this way the village is protected if the case should go,
to court !-ndt:he. settlement is over our insurance coverage of $300,000.00.
Councilriiari.Syioirig moved and Councilman Hudson seconded that the Council adetp
the Traffic regulation, a reconafication of Ch 18 of the Oraanance in
connection with snowmobili drivers.

Harry Dreissig is going to do some more checking to see if the village can
get more bids for the fire truck and equipment.
DeRosier gave his police report to the Council.

The Council decided to do some more checking on the Millhouse building situation
and th!it a Giecision on its aemolition should. b.e made, at ~:)Ur next meeting.
The Council also decide~ to do some more checking into the cost of offset printing
and the cost of putting an insert into the County paper.
