Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Mark Pistulka for the position of building inspector effective July 8,
2019.
Background/Discussion
With the retirement notice of Building Inspector Bill Bandar, we went to market to fill this position. We
received 54 applications and interviewed nine candidates. Following background and reference checks, we
recommend Mark Pistulka for this position.
Mr. Pistulka has been working in the building inspection industry since 2002. He began working for the
City of Carver in 2006 as a building inspector. He moved into the interim building official position and
eventually was hired as building official in his thirteen years with the city. He holds a Building Official
License, is an ICC Certified Building Inspector, and has a MN Tree Inspector License. He graduated
from North Hennepin Community College with his Building Inspections Technology Certificate and also
has a technical degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
Due to his level of experience, Mr. Pistulka will start at step D of pay grade 2N. He will begin accruing
vacation at the rate of three weeks per year and will be given two days (16 hours) in the bank. All other
pay and benefits will be consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
