SR 06-17-2019 Request for Action To Item Number Mayor and City Council 4.11 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Consent June 17, 2019 Lauren Wipper, Human Resources Manager Item Description Reviewed by Hire Maintenance Mechanic Tim Sevcik, Street and Park Superintendent Reviewed by Cal Portner, City Administrator Action Requested Approve, by motion, the hiring of Christopher Decker for the position of maintenance mechanic effective July 8, 2019. Background/Discussion Maintenance Mechanic John Legatt resigned in March. We went to market to fill this position, received 18 applications, and interviewed five candidates. Following background, reference, and pre-employment testing, we recommend Christopher Decker for this position. Mr. Decker has worked as a fleet mechanic since 2001. During that time, he has worked for Richfield Public Schools, Jefferson Lines, and most recently the City of Minneapolis. He has a 2-year degree in Heavy Duty Truck Maintenance from Dakota County Technical College, holds a Class A Commercial Driver’s License, and is a DOT-Certified Commercial Vehicle Inspector. Mr. Decker is also a Baldwin Township firefighter and completed Elk River’s fire academy. Mr. Decker will start at step B of the Maintenance Mechanic pay scale in the IUOE Local 49 contract. All pay and benefits will be consistent with union contract and city policy. Financial Impact This is a budgeted position.
