Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of George Brenzel to the position of Planning and Code Enforcement
Intern effective July 16, 2019.
Background/Discussion
The 2019 budget includes an intern position for the planning division. We went to market and received
five applications. Following interviews with three qualified candidates, background and reference check,
we recommend George Brenzel for this position.
Mr. Brenzel is in his final year of school for a Bachelor of Individualized Studies in Urban Planning
Degree from the University of Minnesota. He has a variety of work experience including working as a
personal care attendant for the Autism Society of Minnesota, a medical lab assistant at HCMC,
community relations intern for the Sioux YMCA in Dupree, South Dakota, a community development
intern for Salinas Corporation in Equador, and most recently as a peer advisor and office assistant for the
University of Minnesota Career Services. In addition to his schooling at the University of Minnesota, Mr.
Brenzel has studied abroad in Ecuador and Argentina.
Mr. Brenzel will be paid $14.00 per hour. As this is a temporary position, not to last beyond December
31, 2019, Mr. Brenzel is not eligible for insurance or paid leave benefits.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
