Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of John Colotti to the position of Liquor Store Manager effective August
19, 2019.
Background/Discussion
With the retirement announcement of Assistant Liquor Operations Manager Steve Tillmann it was
decided a reorganization of the division was appropriate. The Assistant Liquor Operations Manager
position was eliminated, the Lead Liquor Clerk positions will be eliminated, and two Liquor Store
Manager positions were created. We went to market to fill the new positions. We received 40 applications
and interviewed eight candidates. Following background and reference checks, we recommend John
Colotti for one of these positions.
Mr. Colotti has been the City Liquor Manager for the City of Mound since 2003. Prior to that, he was a
Liquor Store Manager for Byerly’s, Assistant Manager at Apple Valley Liquor, a Liquor Sales
Representative for Bellboy Corporation, and an Assistant Liquor Store Manager for the City of St.
Anthony. Mr. Colotti holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a Political Science minor.
Mr. Colotti will be starting at step C of pay grade 7E. He will begin accruing vacation at the rate of 3
weeks per year. All other pay and benefits will be consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
