Provide direction to staff on the date to hold the 2020 Elk RiverFest. Background/Discussion Elk RiverFest was open from 2—9 p.m. and offered a variety of activities for families including touch-a- truck, carnival games, crafts,mini-golf, arts and crafts vendors,not-for-profit organizations, food vendors, bingo, beer and wine sampling, a demonstration area, and a concert. The event was capped off with a fireworks display held on the Elk River High School campus. A larger area of downtown Elk River was blocked off than the previous year in order to expand the side of the event. Various city departments came together to make the event happen. In addition, a large number of community organizations also participated. The First National Bank of Elk River was the key sponsor of the event. Other sponsors include The Bank of Elk River and Park Dental. The attendance was estimated at 7,000 as compared to 5,000 in 2018. The idea of consistently holding Elk RiverFest on the first Saturday in July has been discussed. In 2020 July 4 will fall on the first Saturday in July which will cause an increase in costs.
