Action Requested
Discussion of a standardized picnic pavilion design roof color for Elk River parks.
Approve, by motion, a standardized picnic pavilion roof color for Elk River parks.
Background/Discussion
A joint meeting was held on April 15, 2019, with the Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council
to discuss standardized community picnic shelters for the city park system. At a work session on May 8
the Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the design features preferred.
The Commission recommended at the June regular meeting, by a vote of 3-2, the following design
elements for the standardized picnic pavilions:
Steel Frame Poligon Chelsea Pavilion style with steel roof
Red roof for Lion John Weicht Park to match Rivers Edge Commons Park gazebo.
A nature-tone roof decided by Woodland Trails Regional Park Committee for WTRP.
Rock veneer columns up to four feet to match city’s wayfinding rock
At their July 1 meeting, the City Council discussed roof colors and did not reach consensus however
requested sample roof renderings be reviewed and discussed at a future meeting. Staff received new
information the red and orange colors provide a 10-year warranty on fading (to a certain level) while the
other colors have a much longer warranty at 30-years.
Commission Chair Dave Anderson contacted members of the WTRP Committee regarding exact colors.
Dave has informed staff the WTRP members prefer Hartford Green and Mansford Brown for roof
colors; and for the frame one of the following: Ash Grey Texture, Greystone Texture or Suede.
