Subject: Arena Update
The Barn's ice was taken out the second week in April. With the new floor in place,
there were no problems with lost ice time or leaks in the system. There were a few minor
items to the punch list remaining to the project this spring; however these items have
been taken care of and the money that was being held will be released.
The Break Away spring league went very well, numbers in the Mini mites and Mites were
up and the squirts numbers held steady. Due to the lack of interest, we have not had a Pee
Wee or Bantam level for the last few years.
The Skating Academy's skate show numbers were down. The lack of interest in the show
may have had a lot to do with the theme ofthe show, (The Sound of Music). Next year's
show will be "Grease". The show will be a faster pace show and should have a stronger
interest.
The summer skating season is on its way with several hockey camps and figure skating
sessions available throughout the summer. Most of the camps are from coaches from Elk
River; however the Roger's Boys and Girls high school coach's have scheduled their
clinics at our rink.
As you may be aware of Roger's has been talking about a new rink in their community. It
sounds like they have obtained the land that is needed for an Arena; however the hard part
of raising the necessary funds and creating the right financing package for the project is
still in the process. There remains a lot of foot work to be completed; however the
grassroots people working towards the completion of the project are committed to an
Arena in Rogers.
At the Elk River Youth Hockey's annual board meeting there wasn't any discussion
regarding the Concession Stand and the lease agreement between the city and their
association. It is my understanding that they will be honoring the agreement for the 2005
- 2006 season and will look at the revenue stream of the concession stand next spring to
determine if they will continue to operate the concession stand in the future.
We are in the process of installing some center grove along the barns walls. For the last
few years we have put in the budget enough money to complete about two to four
sections. This project should be completed within the next few years.
Other items we work on during the summer months are, general repairs to the rink and
building, painting, compressors, and the Zamboni.
