Ice Plants
The Olympic ice plant has a slow refrigeration leak again and we cannot find the source. If it is in the floor
as in 2015 the estimated repair is $84,000. The alternative is to keep adding Freon as needed to get by until
the new system is installed. We are awaiting the Council's decision.
The Barn Rink also has problems. Over the years, impurities have built up inside the refrigeration pipes
in the floor and are causing flow issues. The ice no longer freezes as it should in these areas and black
streaks are appearing down the rink where the ice doesn't set up quickly. More areas have developed over
the season that are getting longer and wider indicating the problem is getting worse. Like calcium that
builds up in an artery, the impurities will continue to build until total failure of the pipe(s). We have made
several attempts to clear the pipes without success. Over the next month we will continue to try to clear
the pipes, however if we're unsuccessful we will have to determine the next step we want to take, which
could include replacing a check valve or worse replacing the pipes in the floor.
