Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Jeanette Nelson to the position of police officer effective September 4,
2019.
Background/Discussion
With the retirement of Sergeant Justin Ege and the city’s practice of filling sergeant positions internally,
we went to market to fill a police officer position. We received 44 applications and following several
interviews, pre-employment checks and assessments, we recommend Jeanette Nelson for this position.
Ms. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice and became
POST eligible last October. Her law enforcement experience includes working several positions as a
security officer and a security dispatcher, most recently for Allina Health in Fridley where she is also a
Use of Force instructor.
Ms. Nelson will begin this position tomorrow, September 4, 2019. All pay and benefits will be consistent
with union contract and city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
