ERMUSR 09-10-2019 Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: ERMU Commission Troy Adams, P.E.—General Manager MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: September 10, 2019 5.3 SUBJECT: Minnesota Municipal Power Agency Hometown WindPower Program ACTION REQUESTED: None DISCUSSION: The Minnesota Municipal Power Agency(MMPA), ERMU's wholesale power provider, has a program where they install a demonstration wind turbine in every member city. The agency is looking to site one of these wind turbines in Elk River. The tower is of a smaller scale than the one located off Highway 169 in northern Elk River. The MMPA towers in the other member cities are located near schools, city halls, utility offices, and areas of visibility. Pictured below are the installs in Shakopee and in Faribault. Attached is a picture indicating the height of the turbine and the plans for the installation in Shakopee. xri / • i Staff would like to discuss with the commission next steps for siting this tower. The process for site selection should include participation by the city.
