03-14-1961 annual town meeting PROCEEDINGS OF THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING TOWN OF ELK RIVER March 14, 1961 The annual town meeting was called to order by the chairman Melvin Peterson. A L. Powell was appointed to act as moderator for the meeting. The treasurers report was read by the treasurer I R. Moldenhauer. He reported the books were audited and found to be correct. The balances \[were:\] R & B \[Road & Bridge Fund\] $4,944.41; Rev\[enue Fund\] $5,066.06; Poor \[Fund\] $2,153.56. Total balances in treasurer \[sic\] as of this day is $13,158.82. Earnest Palmer moved that the treasurers report be accepted it was moved and seconded. The time of the next annual meeting was discussed. I R Moldenhauer moved the polls be open at 10’clock \[sic\] and the business meeting be held at 7 o’clock P.M. Polls close at Eight. Next order was payment of gopher bounty. It was moved by Oscar Engstrom and Seconded by Hal Moyer we pay the same bounty as before Motion carried. Ben Cox moved to have a 2 Mill seconded by Mrs Cox that this be total for Poor fund. On road and bridge it was decided to raise $5,000 for the next year. It was moved and seconded to raise $5,000. for revenue fund motion carried. It was Moved by Earl Schulke Seconded by I. R. Moldenhauer the Business part of the meeting adjourned. Motion carried. The following voters voted Ernest Palmer Oscar C Bennett Cox Mrs Bennett Cox Mrs Holland Erwin Specht H.R Moyer I. Moldenhauer Everett Specht Oscar Engstrom Earl Schulke Jane Thompson L. Powell Phyllis Powell Everett Rathbun Melvel Peterson At four o’clock the Polls were declared closed. There were 15 voters and the outcome of the election were \[sic\] as follows Supervisor Mel Peterson 12 Truman Moyer 2 Robt Powell 1 Assessor A L Powell 15 Treasurer I R Moldenhauer 9 Erwin Specht 1 Therefore Melvel Peterson was declared elected Supervisor for three years. A L Powell was declared assessor for 2 years and I R Moldenhauer Treasurer for 2 years. Soil Conservation District Gerald Bender received 15 votes and there was no opposition.
