03-04-1940 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING March 4, 1940 The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday March 4, 1940 at 8 o’clock PM Members present: M.C. Tesch, Pres.; Geo Cornelius and Frank Nickerson, Trustees; Wm H Greupner, Clerk The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Oscar Swanson reported that the storm sewer on the corner opposite the Bob Adams property needed some repair. It was decided to have this taken care of thru the W.P.A. Bert Glidden representing the W.P.A. workers asked that the Council get up some more sewer work so they would not have to be transferred to some other town. Mr. Glidden was told that the Council had already layed out some more sewer work for them to work on. The following relief clients were taken care of Carl Bartz – Groc $10.00, Milk $3.00 Harry Anderson Groc $5.00, Milk $1.50 Mrs. Aug Wruck said that Mr. Davies said he could assign her on W.P.A. as a housekeeping project but she said she would not be able to do this work because she had dizzy spells if she had to be on her feet any length of time. It was decided to have her go to a doctor for an examination and see what the trouble might be. Chas Kurrasch. Groc $13.00, Milk $1.50, Lights $1.00 and ¼ ton hard coal and ¼ ton soft coal. Fritz Carlson, medicine $.60 and after some discussion in regards to his wife it was decided that she go to the University Hospital for a thorough examination and the Village pay for the trip down and also pay her board and room for 3 or 4 days st Chester Waite $4.00 doctor bill from Jan 1 to Jan 14, 1940. Joe Belanger $8.00 rent to Mrs. Aug Wruck for March. Ed Keegan $10.00 for Mrs. Roberts for 1 month care and 2 night shirts. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Frank Nickerson to allow Mrs. Ida Burgoyne an on and off sale non intoxicating malt liquor license for one year. Gladys Hulbert asked that the council allow her a doctors examination. She was told that she had a chance once for this examination and did not take it therefore the council felt it was not urgent. She also asked to have some teeth extracted and was told the council would take it under consideration. The following bills were allowed and ordered payed. N.W. Bell Tele Co Tele rent $5.20 E.R.
