1. Recognize the promotion of Detective Andrew Zabee to the position of Patrol Sergeant effective
December 16, 2019.
2. Mayor Dietz to administer the oath of office to Detective Andrew Zabee.
Background/Discussion
The patrol sergeant position has been vacant since March 29, 2019, following the retirement of Sergeant
Justin Ege.
After an internal process,Andrew Zabee has been selected to be promoted to the rank of patrol sergeant.
The patrol sergeant is responsible for daily supervision of patrol officers.
Detective Zabee is exceptionally qualified as a 12-year veteran of the department;he has earned a number
of department awards and accommodations. He currently serves on the Elk River Police Department
Honor Guard,is the Assistant Team Leader on the SWAT team, and the Liaison for the Reserves Unit.
Detective Zabee earned his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Cloud State University in
2006 and is currently working towards his Master's degree in Criminal Justice Leadership through
Concordia University.
Financial Impact
This position is currently budgeted and he will start at$44.94 per hour,based on the Patrol Sergeant
Labor Agreement.
