Recommend,by motion, the final designs and bid documents for the WTRP Nature Play and Shelter.
Background/Discussion
At the December 11 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the final designs were recommended to
City Council. The WTRP Grant Planning Committee reviewed 75% design review of the nature play
features and shelter at the May 8,2019,planning meeting. It was decided last spring that the project
would go out to bid this winter for a 2020 spring/summer construction.
WSB has refined the design concepts and unit prices keeping the grant project at its projected
construction budget. This will be done by focusing the phases of construction on the priority areas
recommended by the WTRP Planning Committee (shown in dashed red circles on the attached final
design concept). These areas and the entire nature play area,including the alternates,have been planned
to keep costs down through donations and volunteers.
WSB Senior Landscape Architect Candace Amberg will present the designs for final approval. Final
construction documents and bidding services should be completed early 2020 for late winter bidding. We
hope to see final approval of a contractor by mid-March.
Financial Impact
The construction budget for the shelter and nature play is $325,000. The Park Improvement Fund
amount of$90,000 will be used for the well, trails, two shelter concrete pads and picnic tables.
