Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Jacob Kuntz to the position of street maintenance operator II effective
Monday, February 24, 2020.
Background/Discussion
Mike Zappa filled the park maintenance worker position vacated by Shane Fisher which left vacant Mr.
Zappa’s position in street maintenance. Staff went to market to fill this position. We received 37 applications
and interviewed 10 candidates. Following background and reference checks and pre-employment testing we
recommend Jacob Kuntz for the position of street maintenance operator II.
Mr. Kuntz currently works for the City of Brooklyn Park as a public services worker 1. Prior to that, he was a
public works worker at the City of Eagle Lake and has also worked as the head foreman at Nature’s Care
Landscaping, crew leader at Advantage Lawn Care, and was on the grounds crew at General Mills. Mr. Kuntz
holds an Associate’s degree in botany, is a certified tree inspector, and holds a Class B Commercial Driver’s
License.
This position is part of the IUOE Local 49 and all pay and benefits are consistent with union contract and city
policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
