03-17-1941 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING March 17, 1941 A meet of the Village was held at the Municipal Bldg. March 17, at 7:30 P.M. Members present: M.C. Tesch, Mayor; E.L. Shadick and G.A. Bailey, Trustees; J. Clinton Walker, Clerk The following relief clients were taken care of: Mrs. Mary Martineau allowed half a ton of coal August Leider allowed a ten dollar $10.00 Food stamp book Clifford Martinson allowed ten dollar ($10.00) rent L.J. Bethke allowed ten dollar $10.00 rent, half ton of coal and a ten dollar $10.00 food stamp book. Mrs. Nels Nelson was allowed her Mar. light bill of two dollars and eleven cents $2.11. The late Sara Beck twenty seven dollars and seventy five cents ($27.75) doctor bill was allowed. It was decided to have Gladys Hulberts stove moved to Art Legers basement with the rest of the household goods. The following residents of Thomas street were present. Mr. Hudson, Mr. deMars, and Mr. Montague. They wanted to know what the council intended to do about furnishing them with a shut off valve and a service line from the water main to their property line. A motion was made by E.L. Shadick to allow the village to put in the shut off valve and run the service line from the main to the property line providing the property owner had a trench dug on his own property suitable for draining the pipe to the main. The cost of the material and labor to be assessed against the property and be added to the assessment for the water main. The motion was seconded by G.A. Bailey and carried. A letter was read from the highway department stating that there would be pedestrian walk on the outside of each roadway on the new bridge over Lake Orono. A letter was read from the Dept. of Health Division of Sanitation approving that portion of the sewer system north of the R.R. tracks. A report from the Dept. of Health on investigation of the water supply of the Village was read and the recommendation were referred to the water committee. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey and seconded by E.L. Shadick approving of an on-sale of 3.2 beer licenses of John Blocker and Donald Honey. Motion carried. A motion was made by E.L. Shadick and seconded by J.C. Walker approving the following pin ball machine licenses: R.C. O’Reilly – 2 A.E. Eklund -1 Donald Hovey – 2 John Blocker – 1 Leo Varville – 2 Ida Burgoyne – 1 Walter Johnson – 2 It was decided to purchase 150 ft of fire hose from Harold Caley Inc. No further business.
