Action Requested
Council to interview Vern Iverson for consideration to serve on the Energy City Commission as a
residential customer representative. If appointed, Mr. Iverson’s term would begin immediately and expire
on February 28, 2023.
Background/Discussion
The Energy City Commission has vacancies for two representatives meeting one of the following
requirements:
a) Energy related business (can include consultants, manufacturers, technology, environmental, energy
producers and/or energy providers);
b) Commercial or residential customers (representatives must receive at least one city service – water,
sewer, trash collection, or electric delivery; or
c) Nonprofit organizations (can include schools, youth organizations, or business organizations as
determined by the city council).
Mr. Iverson does receive electric delivery from Elk River Municipal Utilities.
The positions have been advertised per the Advisory Board and Commission Policy and will continue to be
advertised until filled.

Why are you interested
in serving on a city
commission?
All my adult life I have been interested in protecting our natural
environment. I have notices the wonderful work Elk River is doing
providing leadership for its citizens and other cities regarding
energy efficacy and using renewable energy. I would like to serve
the City of Elk River helping to promote these important
environmental goals. Serving on the Energy Commission is a
way for me to fulfill my commitment to the environment.

and experience would
you bring to the
commission for which
you seek appointment?
scientist for Medtronic Inc. Using the scientific method during my
career has given me the ability to evaluate and analyze data,
recognizing what is valid or invalid information. Before my work
as a scientist I worked as a teacher in Minnesota and Honduras
Central America. .
Experience: My wife and I are living in a passive solar, super
insulated home, that is powered by 100% renewal energy. We
have planted 100's of trees on the land surrounding our homes
throughout the years. We drive electric vehicles, Bolt EV and a
Tesla Model 3. We use cloth bags when we shop. We have
reduced the amount of meat we eat and moved towards a more
plant based diet. We have given over 50 presentations about
protecting our environment to schools, faith groups, friends and
neighbors.
I am trying to live the life that I believe in. Conserving our natural
resources and living a sustainable life style. Thorough reducing
our carbon footprint and teaching others to do the same, I am
acting to mitigate climate change.
