VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
May 4, 1936
The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg store Monday May 4,
1936 at 8:00 o’clock P.M.
Members present:
J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees;
Wm H Greupner, Clerk.
The minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. Russell Sass came before the Council stating that the fire dept had burnt off the lot in back of
her house and had destroyed some signs and the children toys. Mrs. Sass was told to present a bill
for the amount of damage done.
It was decided at this meeting to remove the covers from the stop signs on main street. J.D. Flaherty
to see L.G. Nelson about connecting up these lights and see if they could not be had for $1.00 a
month instead of $2.00 which has been paid before.
George McBridge spoke to the Councilmen about hiring his son George as life guard at the
Municipal Swimming pool for the summer. A motion was made by Wm Patenaude seconded by

Geo Cornelius to hire George McBridge as lifeguard from May 30 to August 15 at $25.00 a
month. Motion carried.
Wm Greupner reported that the sidewalk in front of Caley’s Hdwe store was in a very bad condition
and needed attention. Due to shortage of money in the Road and Bridge fund the matter was tabled
until a later date. It was also reported that the fence protecting R.E. Dares property between Caley’s
and John Blockers needed repairing. The Clerk was instructed to see Mr. Dare and have him take
care of this matter.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to appropriate $50.00 to Morris
Wilson for the maintenance of the campgrounds. Motion carried.
A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to transfer $15000.00 from the
Bond and Int fund to the sinking fund. Motion carried.
The clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Jack Riley thanking him for the transformers which were
used the past winter for thawing out water pipes.
Al Parker came before the Council asking for a building permit to build an addition on his lunch
room. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to grant Mr. Parker this
permit.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to transfer Bob Shannon’s 3.2
non intoxicating malt liquor license to Mr. Art Karkhoff. Motion carried.
The question was brought up whether it was a state law that the Village is compelled to pay for
fumigating homes after contagious diseases. The clerk was instructed to see Frank White, village
attorney about this matter.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by G.A. Bailey to allow the following bills and
order them paid.
