VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
January 3, 1938
The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday Jan 3, 1938 at 8
o’clock P.M.
Members present:
Frank Nickerson, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees;
Wm H Greupner, Clerk.
The minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
Harry Anderson came before the Council asking for the approval for W.P.A. work. A motion was
made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius recommending W.P.A. work for Mr. Anderson.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to accept Henry Pfeiffers bond
as Justice of the Peace. Motion carried.
A letter was read from Chas M Nelson asking for reappointment as Village Marshall and Pumper for
the year 1938. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to reappoint Chas M
Nelson as Marshall and Pumper for year of 1938. Motion carried.
Leo Demars came before the council and asked if they would consider putting in a street light in
front of his house on Thomas Street which he and his neighbor had petitioned for a while back. A
motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to have this light put in providing
there would be no charge for installation. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius recommending relief for Nels
Riley.
A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Patenaude that the Clerk get a certified
account of all the relief money which was spent by the County relief worker during the past year.
Frank Nickerson, Mayor appointed G.A. Bailey and Wm Patenaude to see Miss Hoyt, County relief
worker about issuing relief orders to some of the relief clients without the approval of the village
council. It was thought that either the Council approve all of them or Miss Hoyt to take care of it.
It was brought up at this time that the doors in the Fire Barn were in a very bad condition and
therefore a motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to hire Herman
Middelstadt and have him put over head doors. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to allow the following bills.
