VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
October 5, 1959
A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Oct 5, 1959
Members present:
Henry Johnson, Mayor; August Meyer, R.G. Kemper, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The bids for the demolition of parts of the Creamery building were opened. Architect Mosse was
present.

A motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Meyer to accept bid of Minnesota Lumber and
Wrecking Co who had the lowest bid. Carried.
The contract will be presented by Mr. Mosse subject to the approval of the Village Attoreny.
Mr. Mosse showed completed plans for the remodeling of the Creamery building.
Motion by Bergerson and second by Briggs to accept architect plans for remodeling of Creamery
Building. Carried.
Motion by Meyer and second by Kemper to advertise for bids for the remodeling to be opened on
Nov. 3, 1959 and authorize Mr. Mosse to advertise two time sin the Construction Bulletin and in the
local paper. Carried.
A hearing was held on this date regarding vacation of part of Xenia Street. James Thomas and
Howard Wirtz owners of adjoining property were present also a delegation from that part of town.
A letter was received from the local Fire Department asking that the Village request an easement for
the purpose of a fire hydrant.
A motion made by Bergerson and seconded by Briggs to table the matter until the last of a fire
hydrant and line to the lake can be determined. Motion carried.
Fire Chief Harry Dreissig was present. Also Mr. Ralph Stewart of the North Central Public Service
Co.
There was some discussion regarding an ordinance for the installation of Natural gas. The Gas
Company asked to be allowed to use plastic pipe in some places. Nothing can be done about this
until the Council can learn if plastic pipe will be approved.
James Cliff presented a new sketch of his addition. A motion was made by Bergerson and seconded
by Kemper to accept tentative plat. Carried.
The following bills were allowed and ordered paid. See next page.
A letter from Mrs. Helen Gray, County Auditor, states that the Board of County Commissioners
gave authorization to make open trenches where necessary to cross the highway through Orono,
back filling and resurfacing to be supervised by County Highway Engineer.
