Background/Discussion
Mayor Dietz was contacted by Zimmerman Mayor Nick Stay who asked if the Elk River Council would
support a letter to legislators regarding their request for state funds to pay for interchange design for
Th169 and CSAH 5 in Zimmerman.
The letter proposed was drafted by the Zimmerman city administrator.

RE: Letter of Support for Proposed Bonding Bill - HF 4093 and SF 4170
Interchange Design at TH 169 and CSAH 4 - Sherburne County and City of Zimmerman
Dear Sen. Senjem and Rep. Murphy:
On behalf of the City of Elk River City Council, please accept our letter of support for Senate File 4170
and House File 4093 which propose to fund an interchange design for the intersection of TH 169 and
Sherburne County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 4 in the City of Zimmerman.
TH 169 is a major transportation route for local, state and interstate movement of commuters, freight
and tourists, including those who access via TH 10 in Elk River.
The approved and funded Highway 169 Redefine project will eliminate all signalized intersections on the
TH 169 corridor in Elk River by 2024. At the conclusion of that project, the CSAH 4 intersection will be
the last signalized intersection on the 75 miles between I-94 and Lake Mille Lacs. Design funding from
the state is critical to provide Sherburne County adequate resources to plan and prepare for the
elimination of the signalized intersection and of construction of an interchange.
