Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Augustus Koppi to the position of police officer effective April 21,
2020.
Background/Discussion
The city has three vacant police officer positions and after going to market we received 66 applications and
invited all qualified candidates for an initial interview. The pool was narrowed to 17 candidates who were
given a second interview. Eight of those candidates interviewed with Chief Nierenhausen who made the
decision for which candidates to move on to background checks, physical and psychological testing.
After successfully passing each of these elements, we recommend Augustus Koppi for one of the vacancies.
Mr. Koppi served in the US Marine Corps for four years before attending school for law enforcement.
During school he served as a reserve officer for Wright County and worked as a security guard for GSSC.
Mr. Koppi is currently a supervisor at Arbor Barber in Big Lake.
Mr. Koppi will begin at step 1 of the patrol union contract. All pay and benefits will be consistent with
union contract and city policy.
