Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Tyler Corrier to the position of police officer effective May 4, 2020.
Background/Discussion
The city currently has three vacant police officer positions and after going to market we received 66
applications and invited all qualified candidates to interview. The pool was narrowed down to 17 candidates
for a second interview. Eight of those candidates interviewed with Chief Nierenhausen who made the
decision for which candidates to move on to background checks, physical and psychological testing. After
successfully passing each of these elements, we recommend Tyler Corrier for one of the vacancies.
Mr. Corrier has been working as a patrol officer at East Grand Forks Police Department since 2017. Prior to
that he worked as a probation officer and a police intern/reserve. He also served in the US Marine Corps for
four years. Mr. Corrier holds a bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement.
Mr. Corrier will begin at step 1 of the patrol union contract. All pay and benefits will be consistent with
union contract and city policy.
