Provide staff with direction regarding possible amendments to the city's zoning ordinance.
Background/Discussion
Over the past year, city staff has received multiple complaints regarding the parking of semi -tractors in
residential areas. Code Enforcement responded to these complaints with violation letters in accordance
with city ordinances. Violations included urbanized and rural residential areas.
After speaking with a resident about a recent code violation letter about parking his semi -tractor on his
2.5-acre parcel, staff proposed discussing the current ordinance standards with Council. The ordinance
regulating the parking of commercial vehicles in residential areas, Sec. 46-34 (a) (6), identifies the following
violations:
(6) The parking of a truck tractor and/or trailer; or other commercial type vehicle, excluding pickup trucks or
vans, iu excess of 7,000 pounds gross weight, on:
a. Publicpmper�y within an area Zoned residential;
b. Residential lots in all Zoning districts, except the R- la and A- 9 districts; and
c. Platted parcels and lots five acres in si.Ze or less in the R- la and A- 9 districts, unless a conditional use
permit for a home occupation has been granted.
The current parcel size limitation for parking commercial vehicles in the R-1a zoning district is 5-acres,
and the minimum lot size for the district is 2.5 acres. Is the Council interested in reducing the minimum
lot size for parking commercial vehicles in the R-1a zoning district?
