VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING May 1, 1961 A regular meeting was held at Village Hall on May 1, 1961. Members present: Henry Johnson, Mayor; R.G. Kemper, Lars Larson, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Larson to have clerk write the Standard Oil Co regarding an old well on their property that seems to be soaking up the oil and should be capped before street surfacing is done. Motion carried. The clerk was asked to put a notice in the paper that the dump will be open during May until 8 P.M. on the regular days. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also that there shall be no burning of rubbish in the village during May until after 6 P.M. A.E. Balow, Liquor Store Manager, asked that he be authorized to buy a beer cabinet at the Liquor Store. The matter was tabled for the present. Archie Larson, representing the Park Board was present. He suggested first: that the swimming beach be kept open on Sunday this summer; second that weeds and grass be mowed more often; third that steps be constructed from the lake to the bath house. The Council agreed to go along with these suggestions as far as possible. Les Derr says the village needs a new truck or that the old one should be thoroughly overhauled. He will get prices on an overhaul job and new tires. Les Derr will also get estimated cost of door in the Liquor Store building for truck storage. Abe Johnon and Carl P. Philippi were present. They suggested that the village buildings be appraised for insurance purposes. The Council agreed. The Council decided to have the roof of the Municipal Building relocated and asked the clerk to write the Allweather Roof Co to do the work. The clerk was asked to write Welfare Board that the village will not pay for any more assistance for Wesley Kluge, a copy of the letter to be sent to Mr. Kluge.
