VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
May 22, 1961
A special meeting was held at Village Hall on May 22, 1961 at 9:00 P.M.
Members present:
Henry Johnson, Mayor; R.G. Kemper, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk
The purpose of the meeting was to consider an extension of the sewer from the end of the sewer on
Main Street south 790 feet more or less. The cost is to be about $6.40 per foot including
compacting.
This extension is to etend under the new highway. Thos present were: Engineer Mills, Archie
Johnson, Lester Rootes, Wm Patenaude, Stanley Wheaton, Charles Nogle, George Dietz, John
MacGibbon, Earl Hohlen, Kendal Houlton.
A motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Larson to go ahead with the extension. Roll call
vote: Meyer – yes, Larson – yes, Kemper – yes, Briggs – yes, Johnson – yes. Carried.
Upon motion by Meyer and second by Kemper the Council agreed to issue a building permit to Earl
Hohlen for a trailer count, the location to be decided later.
A petition was filed by Ben Roper and R.R. Schulze asking for parts of certain streets be vacated on
account of the fact that some buildings encroach on these streets. This situation is of long standing.
A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Larson to approve this action. Carried (see petition
for description) A hearing on the petition will be held on June 5, 1961 at 8 P.M.
George Dietz and Charlie Nogle met with the Council. They would like to use a better recreation
program which would include the girls as well as the boys. The matter was tabled until the next
meeting.

payment on July 1, 1961, shall cease to bear interest from and after said date.
