DISCUSSION:
In the last 30 days, the level two charger located downtown had 10 sessions and
provided customers with 9 kWh of green energy. The charger in the ERMU/City Hall
parking lot had 2 sessions and provided customers with 8 kWh of green energy. The DC
fast charger at the Coborn’s fuel station has had 6 sessions and provided42kWh of
green energy to customers. There was a total of 17 charging sessions and 157 kWh of
energy provided over the last 30 days.
The City of Elk River and Minnesota Municipal Power Agency are finalizing the easement
for the wind turbine to be installed at the Youth Athletic Complex. Currently the wind
turbine is being disassembled in California for shipmentto Minnesota. Once it arrives in
Minnesota it will be refurbished and then installed.
Staff is working with the Minnesota Department of Commerce (DOC) to develop a new
energy efficiency program to provide energy savings through LED lighting for residential
customers. This effort will especially benefit customers experiencing financial strains as
a result of the pandemic. ERMU will provide 4 LED lamps to customers who sign up for
our energy efficiency newsletter and confirm they have installed the lamps. Final
approval of the mid-year program adjustment is pending DOC staff review.
Staff is working with the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association’s Government
Relations Committee and Drive Electric Minnesota to build support for the Energy
Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act of 2020. The ECO Act has been a legislative
centerpiece for two years and its passage would make considerable improvements to
the current Conservation Improvement Program by:
o Authorizing flexible CIP plans that last 1 to 3 years, allowing long-term planning
to achieve savings goals
o Increasing flexibility in spending requirements for the planning period
o Making new and emerging technologies eligible for energy savings credit,
including beneficial electrification
o Expanding options for helping low-income households
