June 28, 2005
The Board and guests from the city of Elk River toured the Monticello Library
and then met in their conference room.

Anne Schroeder, Mike Hangaard, Karen Stelk, Allison Olson and

Klaers and Bill Mertz of the City of Elk River were present as guests.
The minutes from the May 2005 meeting were approved.
Mick reported no correspondence, no suggestions and no Treasurer' Report.
Leslie opened the floor to a discussion about what should be included in a
survey about the Elk River Library use and possible expansion. The survey will
be available at City Hall, Lion's Park and the library. It will also be
included in the next parks and recreation brochure going out from the city in
September. The brochure form of the survey will look different from the survey
available at the library, Lion's Park and the city offices.
Those who complete the survey can return it to Lion's Park or the library and
will be entered in a prize drawing. Mick will ask the Friends of the
Library to donate the prize. The survey will have a deadline of November
1, 2005 for a response. The survey will be two-sided. The reverse side will
have directions, address information and a statement that results will be
published on the city website and available in hard copy in the library.
Suggestions for the survey included:
Leaving space at the end for "other comments".
How often do you use the library?
Would you use a coffee shop if one were added to the library?
Rate the following priorities (1 most important, 4 least important)

Lion's Park If you use the library computers, do you use them for? Internet
access, or word processing/other What improvements do you suggest for the
library?
Besides the staff, what do you like best about the Elk River Library?
What do you like least about the Elk River Library?
Allison will draft the survey and email it to members of the library board for
comment, correction and additions.
In other business, Karen reported that 6 more chairs had been ordered for
the library. In lieu of traveling to any other libraries, Chris and Bill
will prepare a slide show of the new libraries being built in Chisago County to
be presented at the board meeting in July or August.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
